I am Arek Goetz, a professor of mathematics at San Francisco State University.

You have a chance to participate in an exciting and unique endeavor. You can be part of an international and ethnically diverse active class of committed stduents. Along the way you earn credit from a fully accredited university that is part of the largest university system in the US.

Your active participation in this course will help you learn to ask investigative questions and seek answers about calculus, about mathematics, and about life and the universe in general. Since the world around us is about changes, it is my hope that once you complete the course, you will see your surrounding and you will see phenomena in nature, politics, and finance through a new lens, the lens of perpetual changes.

Please browse this website that I have built over years, read what successful students are saying and advice they offer to succeed. Or peak at some searchable video clips....

The setup of the online calculus course is simple. First you watch a short video lecture can be interupted at times with quizzes which ensure that you understand the key conepts before moving on. Then you work on homework problems by yourself and later you discuss homework problems with other students. Human help is always availble.

Oh Have you wondered what finance, medicine, physics, biology, chemistry, and psychology have all in common? They all to a greater or lesser extent use the language of numbers to describe quantities and relationships between different quantities. In order to study these relationships, called functions, we investigate how the change of one quantity affects the change of the other. Calculus is the study of these changes, both large and small. Have a good semester and see you online.
